It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive
Thank you to everyone in our Speak Ya Truth community that supported John and me as we wholeheartedly endeavored and successfully executed the delivery of 30 baskets filled with self-care personal items to the formerly incarcerated men of the Man In The Mirror grassroots organization on Long Island. The baskets were graciously received by William Certain, Director of Re-Entry Programming and his lovely wife Renita Grimes, Director of Female Development and Planning for distribution to the formerly incarcerated men in the program and their families.
At every turn, we were met with obstacles — so much so that as John and I were putting the baskets together (which included laundry detergent, fabric softener, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, dental floss, rubbing alcohol, fingernail clippers, lotion, organic shea butter, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, petroleum jelly, and deodorant) we received a phone call from the founder and COO of Man In the Mirror, Heath Broughton. Heath was calling to apologize for not being able to be there to receive the items because he and several members of the staff and of the program had come down with some ailment and were under the weather to such a degree that their regularly scheduled Thursday night classes were cancelled until next week.
My heart sank, but my faith stayed strong. I recognized this for what it was: An attack from the enemy because we were doing Kingdom work. I refused to be swayed. John saw my countenance fall and began to encourage me. I told him that God did not bring us this far to have these baskets sit in our living room for a week. We prayed. John left me putting the baskets together in the living room and got on the phone in our bedroom. I heard him talking, but couldn’t make out what he was saying. I turned my attention away from that and just continued packing and praying, packing and praying.
Before I knew it, John emerged from our room and said he explained the situation to Heath and that two members of the Man in the Mirror staff, William and Renita, would be more than happy to receive the items and distribute them accordingly at next week’s regularly scheduled meeting. Look how God worked that situation out! That’s why I’m sharing it with you! To encourage you! Don’t be fooled when things seem to hit a bump in the road. Keep focused on the task that God gave you to do and do it! No murmuring! No grumbling! No second-guessing! Know in your spirit that If He bought you to it, He’ll bring you through it! He did that for Speak Ya Truth last night and we would be remiss if we didn’t share those behind the scenes happenings with you. Those testimonies are how we overcome. Be encouraged, help others in need, and #speakyatruth🗣💯
